The farmhouse inn offers an overnight respite for those who simply can’t get enough of this charming location.
Just west of Mattituck, Ev&Em offers a majestic setting for enjoying a glass of wine, complete with an expansive outdoor deck and beautiful views overlooking a 40-acre vineyard. The tasting room sits inside a beautiful colonial-style building and invites guests to “reflect upon our wine while enjoying the surroundings.” Guests can be part of the winemaking process via tours, seminars and opportunities to help harvest the grapes.
A trip to Macari Vineyards in Mattituck feels like you’re stepping into paradise. It’s one of the largest vineyards on Long Island – nearly 500 acres of lush vines and farmland, situated next to a modern, wood-beamed tasting room with barrel cellar. The large vineyard naturally enables Macari to produce a wide variety of wines, but also it means the views are expansive. A visit during the warm, breezy months can only be described as breathtaking.
A relative newcomer to the North Fork, RGNY brings a rich Mexican heritage to its vineyards and winemaking practices. This family-owned winery has roots in Parras, Coahuila Mexico, one of the oldest wine-growing regions in the Americas, where the Rivero González family cultivated the land for a quarter century. Guests will appreciate the unique authenticity that RGNY brings to its wines and tasting experiences, which throughout the year include specially curated events and wine-pairing dinners.
A beautifully renovated potato barn creates the cozy setting at Clovis Point Vineyard. Located in Laurel, which some say creates a unique microclimate influenced by the nearby Peconic Bay, Clovis features a 10-acre vineyard with a rustic tasting room and covered patio. Clovis’s winemakers strive to create distinctive styles that go beyond the traditional merlots and chardonnays by combining lots “whose different, yet complementary qualities make wines with character and balance.”
Don’t be fooled by the unassuming name of this vineyard in Jameson. Named after both the founder Jason Damianos and the ancient Greek mythological hero, Jason’s Vineyard is one of the most established and respected wineries on Long Island. Founded in 1996, this 20-acre vineyard offers a beautiful setting for wine tastings, live music and private events. Jason’s Vineyard pioneered the dense spacing of vines that other North Fork wineries now replicate, which reduces grape yields but intensifies flavors.
One of the oldest vineyards in the North Fork, Jamesport Vineyard has a rich history that dates back to the mid-1980s. Jamesport’s wines are considered among the best on the East Coast – the result of decades of experience and honing the winemaking process. The property features a lush backyard lawn for enjoying wine tastings, light fare and summer jazz concerts. There’s also an on-site restaurant serving “neapolitan-ish pizzas” made with fresh, local ingredients.
A sprawling 127-acre vineyard provides the breathtaking backdrop at this popular winery in Aquebogue. A renovated turn-of-the-century barn features a spacious tasting room surrounded by a large deck overlooking the massive vineyard. Despite the expansive estate, this winery has maintained its family-owned roots since the 1980s, creating a unique winetasting experience that is approachable, unpretentious and truly relaxing.
Scenic views, great wine, lush vines – what more could you ask for in a North Fork winery? Palmer Vineyards does it right, because it was among the first to create this experience on Long Island, having planted its first vineyard in 1983. In the decades since, Palmer has received numerous accolades for its wines and its vineyard, which offers cozy picnic tables, Adirondack chairs and a covered deck for enjoying the breezy summer afternoons.
Duck Walk Vineyards is one of the most well-known wineries on Long Island, in part because it’s one of the few wineries in The Hamptons. However, in 2007 Duck Walk opened a second location in Southold, bringing its acclaimed wines to the North Fork. The Southold vineyard features 30 beautiful acres of Sauvignon Blanc grape vines, a spacious tasting room and large outdoor seating area with live music on the weekends.
Baiting Hollow Farm Vineyard has quietly become one of the most talked about wineries on the North Fork in recent years, thanks to its relaxed and friendly vibe, fun outdoor space and of course: great wine. Baiting Hollow hosts live music throughout the summer, featuring some of Long Island’s best entertainers. On-site food trucks and multiple bar areas add to the “summer backyard party” atmosphere: laid-back, family-friendly and an overall great experience.
Corey Creek has a younger, fresher and more minimalist vibe than some of its neighboring North Fork wineries, which many visitors find refreshing. Corey Creek’s wines are handmade with its own sustainably farmed fruit and best enjoyed on the beautiful back deck overlooking the vineyard. Rosé wines are most prominent, but with each new vintage, Corey Creeks creates “something new that wasn’t produced the season before.”
Located in the heart of Peconic, Osprey’s Dominion is a 90-acre vineyard comprised of carmenere, pinot gris and sauvignon blanc. The winery features a large-but-inviting tasting bar with large windows overlooking the vineyard, as well as plenty of outdoor seating. Osprey’s is one of the few remaining wineries to allow guests to bring their own picnic lunches. The space is welcoming, casual and home to live music during the summer.
Rustic charm abounds at this boutique family-owned winery in Southold, where a mother-daughter team crafts exceptional wines amid a picturesque backdrop of 19th-century structures and views of the beautiful Peconic Bay. The Old Field Vineyards is known for its sustainable wine-making practices and cozy tasting cottage, where you may encounter the occasional chicken wandering free on the property. A true hidden gem of the North Fork.
Borghese Vineyard & Winery is widely considered the oldest continuously operating vineyard on Long Island. Founded in 1973 by Louisa and Alex Hargrave, it played a pioneering role in establishing the region’s wine industry. Despite its historic distinction, this family-owned winery has maintained its charm as a relatively small vineyard with a focus on quality. It’s an absolutely lovely spot with beautiful, cozy spaces for enjoying wines, indoors and out.
Perfect for those looking for a relaxed and casual tasting experience, Bridge Lane offers a cozy, coastal-themed tasting bar in Mattituck with an expansive patio & picnic area. Bridge Lane is unique from other North Fork destinations in that it does not operates its own vineyard, but crafts its wines from grapes sourced from all over New York State.
